So yesterday we discussed hybrid Jordans that should be a crime against sneakers. But today, we’re gonna take a look at shoes with retail prices that we really can’t explain. Although they’re mostly from luxury brands, a couple of these shoes are not as luxurious as you imagine. Let’s take a look at them, shall we?
Chrome Hearts Birkenstock
For starters, Chrome Hearts is what you would consider an edgy high-end brand. It actually evolved to become a status symbol for fashion aficionados… and it’s expensive. However, everything they make shows a high level of craftsmanship. But why does one pair of custom Chrome Hearts Birkenstock Arizona Sandals have a price of $2,500? Beats us. The pair was listed on Justin Reed the high-end consignment shop! You’d think that $2,500 is a lot of money for sandals, but lo and behold, somebody bought them.
MSCHF Big Red Boots
You’d think that MSCHF’s Big Red Boots would headline this list, right? However, these seem like the most normal pair of footwear today! These babies certainly made a shock wave through social media with everyone wanting to get their hands on a pair. They’re weird, too big, and definitely not comfy… but they’re hype. Now, for $350 in retail and $700 in average resale, these boots certainly deserve a spot here.
Versace Medusa Dimension Slides
A pair of slides that will turn your wallet to stone. These babies are made of rubber and feature swirl detailing and the signature Medusa plaque. Why that costs $525 in retail is beyond us, but we know for sure that many will pay good money to get their hand on them. After all, if you’re rocking Versace, these slides don’t even count as expensive shoes! But if we had to choose, we’d definitely go for Yeezy slides any day of the week.
Gucci Fur Slippers
You read that right, fur slippers. Although you and I might be reluctant to manifest Chewbacca’s feet, many would in a blink! The loafers feature fur all over, with the signature horsebit. You know, you’ll need to know that it’s Gucci somehow. The best thing about this? These hairy thingies retailed for $1,500+ when they dropped in 2015.
Balenciaga Crocs Madame
We’re really sorry to do this, but Balenciaga and Crocs made us! We gotta start by saying that we absolutely love Crocs. They’re the coolest invention since the lightbulb for us here (minus a couple of people who disagree). But out of all of their collabs, this one was the worst. We get comfort, but why add the really uncomfortable-looking heels and charge $625 for them? But then again, it’s Balenciaga, and that drip doesn’t come cheap.
