Why So Sad? is a campaign that skater John Rattray started to focus on mental health awareness and suicide prevention. In 2011, Rattray lost his sister to suicide, and he dealt with depression himself. So, he decided to do something about it and started Why So Sad? in 2017. By doing that, he opened the door to talk about mental health in the skating community, and more.
On the other hand, the campaign highlights the power of physical activity and the role it plays in helping a person’s mental health. Sports are means to cope and make progress, and that’s what Why So Sad? stands for. “Mental health and physical health are not separate. Our bodies and brains are one system.” So why not have the kicks that will help you do what you need to do?
So at first glance, the kicks are not much, but don’t let that fool you! Beneath the cool light and dark blue suede upper, there’s another layer.
