Sneakers, just like any other kind of collectible, come in different levels of rarity. And you know that the rarer a pair of kicks is, the more valuable it is, earning it the name of “grail”. In addition to the right to flex if you own these babies, you’re basically sitting on a small fortune with these kicks. So today, we’re gonna tell you what the rarest Nike Dunks are, as well as what makes them that special! But in case you’re looking for something more available, our blog has all the upcoming sneaker releases that you should know about. Now, let’s jump into it, shall we?
Rarest Nike Dunks – Money, Hype, Stories…
Nike SB Dunk Low Paris
Avg. Value: $50,000+
The year is 2002, and the Nike Dunk is thriving with the full power of the Nike SB division behind it. And that year, the White Dunk City Series took the sneaker world by storm. The Nike SB Dunk Low Paris is special because it carries the touch of French painter Bernard Buffet. Now, two very important things set this pair aside. First, there are only 202 pairs in existence. Second, not one pair is like the other because each features unique artwork by Buffet! Kinda explains the limited run, huh?
Nike SB Dunk High FLOM
Avg. Value: $50,000+
In 2004, the Nike SB division collaborated with Futura on the FLOM (For Love Or Money) SB Dunk High. This is one of the rarest Nike Dunks, with only 24 pairs in existence! The production was naturally limited to friends and family, and we’re out here being envious. These babies featured a money print upper that was supposed to be a statement of sorts.
Nike SB Dunk Low London
Avg. Value: $20,000+
The London colorway is another chapter of the White Dunk Series, and is equally as interesting as the Paris drop. 202 pairs of these babies exist, and they’re the poster child of what could’ve been. They were supposed to have a big release to continue the exposition, but alas, it never happened. You can read more about the story of the kicks here.
Nike SB Dunk Low Freddy Krueger
Avg. Value: $20,000+
This one will forever visit us in our dreams… or nightmares because they were never officially released. The Nike SB Dunk Low Freddy Krueger was supposed to be part of the 2007 Horror Pack. Inspired by the iconic horror movie Nightmare on Elm Street, the kicks were inspired by Freddy Krueger’s famous look. Unfortunately, the New Line Cinema, who own the rights to the movie, hit Nike with a cease and desist, and the kicks never officially dropped. However, legend has it that fewer than 30 pairs managed to come into circulation.
Nike SB Dunk Low Yellow Lobster
Avg. Value: $30,000+
Concepts and Nike SB arguably gave us some of the coolest releases, especially the Lobster line. But 2009’s Nike SB Dunk Low Yellow Lobster is one of the rarest Nike Dunks in existence, at only 34 pairs! The reason behind that is that the kicks were an inner-circle release, or what we know as a heartbreaking F&F release. However, there are other colorways currently available for waaay under that resale value. So… silver lining, I guess?
So… What Can We Conclude?
Well, we have two conclusions here. First, the Nike SB Division was up to some solid work in its formative years. Second, the early 2000s were definitely the golden era for the silhouette that gave us some of the rarest Nike Dunks to ever exist! But of course, while we love our sneaker history, we gotta look to the future too. Luckily for us, we can expect plenty of awesome releases. Godspeed!
