Game-Worn Championship Jordans Sell for a Record $8 Million!

The sneaker industry is such a wonderful place to be in. You have all kinds of kicks out there, from affordable lifestyle and performance kicks to priceless collectibles! But some kicks are on another level, especially when they come with a legendary history to them. And that’s the case when it comes to Jordans… but not just any Js! You see, championship Jordans hold a special place in so many sneakerheads’ hearts. But for the set of 6 game-worn Js to sell for $8M on Sotheby’s, now that is dedication. So, let’s check out what went out with this auction!

The Dynasty Collection, aka the Most Valuable Sneaker Set

You better be ready for this ride peeps. So, on Friday, February 2, 2024, an auction took place on Sotheby’s website. The items on auction? A full set of the six pairs that Michael Jordan wore when he won each NBA championship ring. That corresponds to the years 1991 (AJ6), 1992 (AJ7), 1993 (AJ8), 1996 (AJ11), 1997 (AJ12), and 1998 (AJ14). These kicks are all signed by the GOAT himself, but that’s not all. Because the set also comes with 1-of-1 post-win photographs!

Now, all these kicks have MJ’s signature because of a superstition! You see, the first time the Bulls won, Tim Hallam, a public relations executive for the Chicago Bulls, asked MJ for a memento. And well, one of his own shoes is one hella gift. But since then, Jordan made it a tradition to gift Hallam a pair each time they won a championship. Good thing he did too, because we wouldn’t have the Dynasty Collection without it! So, fast forward to 2024, an anonymous buyer bought off this set for a whopping $8 Million. That’s about $1.33M per shoe!

Championship Jordans Set a Record, But It’s Not the Only One!

Now, while this news is worth talking about, it’s not the first time sneakers sold for humongous numbers like that. You see, Kanye’s Grammy-worn Air Yeezys sold for $1.8 Million, and a game-worn AJ13 went for $2.2 Million! If you wanna know more about sneaker auctions like these, check this out. And let’s not forget that time Sotheby’s went all out for Nike’s 50th anniversary! And when we say they went out, it was wild, with some of the rarest sneakers in the lineup.

Okay, we might be talking big numbers, but it doesn’t have to be like that if you wanna start a sneaker collection. You can always wait for sneaker drops and buy sneakers for retail! To do that, you’ll need the right sneaker knowledge and a little helping hand. The first is usually provided by sneaker blogs, but we can help you out with the second! You see, all you need by your side is a good sneaker bot like NSB3. But no rush there, make sure you know what the sneaker-botting world is all about here. Godspeed!
