What are Panda Dunks?

Panda Dunks are a white leather Nike Dunk Low with black overlays, nicknamed for a panda’s black-and-white coat.

The best place to start a story is always the beginning of it all. The Dunk dates to 1985, when designer Peter Moore sketched it as the “College Color High,” according to Complex’s history of the Dunk. Nike then sold it under the “Be True To Your School” campaign in college team colors.

The Panda keeps that two-tone blocking and strips it down to black and white. That simplicity is the whole point, because it goes with everything, so it caught on far outside sneaker circles. When did Panda Dunks release, and what do they cost now?

The pair first dropped in Asia on 14 January 2021 and reached the US on 10 March 2021, according to Sneaker News.

Since then, Nike has run it back more times than we can count. Sneaker News’ release tracker logged a Nike App restock on 2 February 2022, a women’s run on 16 November 2023 and a men’s run on 20 December 2023. The price moved too. Complex reported inline Dunk Lows rising from $100 to $110 in summer 2022, and Nike.com now asks $120.

How do Panda Dunks fit?

They fit true to size for most people, so start with your usual Nike size.

According to SneakerLens’ Dunk Low review, the shoe sits on a 1980s last with a rigid rubber cupsole and a rounded toe box. So if you wear a US 10 in Air Jordan 1s or most Nike runners, a US 10 is the call here too. Kicks Crew’s fit guide lands in the same place: most Dunks follow standard Nike sizing.

What if you have wide feet?

Go up half a size if your feet are an E width or wider, which is what SneakerLens recommends. The toe box is roomier than a Jordan 1, but it isn’t a wide shoe, and the cupsole doesn’t stretch, so your pinky toe takes the pressure.

Narrow feet should stay true to size, per Kicks Crew. Also, the leather softens as you break the pair in, so a snug fit at your true size usually beats a sloppy one half a size up. In short, size up for width and never down.

What are Panda Dunks made of?

The Panda is a leather upper on a foam midsole and rubber cupsole, with no Air unit inside.

Earlier versions of this page said otherwise, so here’s the corrected build. Nike’s own Dunk Low Retro listing describes a foam midsole for lightweight cushioning and a rubber outsole with the classic hoops pivot circle. So if you were expecting Air cushioning, you won’t find it here. Everything else comes from the retail descriptions:

Why did Panda Dunk resale prices fall?

Resale fell because Nike kept restocking the pair until supply finally caught up with demand.

Now, when it comes to hype, the kicks were the pair to have at some point. They were a status sign among collectors and sneakerheads. In fact, it actually got to $300+ on resale, which Bloomberg put at triple the retail price. Highsnobiety also reported it became StockX’s most traded sneaker.

And while one restock is usually fine-ish, so many are for sure gonna oversaturate the market. More Sneakers dates the slide to December 2021. In the latest StockX market snapshot we could pull, the three-month average sale sat at $70 across 2,532 sales. But things kinda lose their appeal when everybody has access to them.

Is the hype gone for good?

Opinions split here, and both sides have a point. A 2023 Long Beach Current opinion piece argued the Dunk’s materials feel cheap and the shoe isn’t comfortable enough to justify a big markup.

On the other hand, that argument was about paying resale, and the markup has mostly vanished. Buyers on Nike.com still rate the Dunk Low Retro 4.9 stars across 2,554 reviews. So the shoe didn’t get worse. It just stopped being rare, which matters if you flip and barely matters if you wear.

StockX vs GOAT vs eBay: which pays more on a Panda sale?

StockX pays the most on a typical sale under $150, and eBay pays the most once a sale clears $150.

Here’s the fee structure we used. StockX’s seller fee page lists a 3% processing fee plus a 9% transaction fee at Level 1. GOAT’s fee policy sets a 9.5% commission plus a location-based seller fee, then 2.9% when you cash out. eBay’s sneaker page charges 8% from $150 up and 13.25% below it for non-store sellers.

We ran both numbers ourselves, so the arithmetic is right there in the table. All payouts are before shipping, and GOAT’s column leaves out its seller fee because that changes by location.

So at $120, StockX edges GOAT by 15 cents before GOAT’s seller fee widens the gap. At $160, eBay keeps $6.40 more than StockX. One catch: eBay counts tax and shipping toward that $150 line, according to its sneaker page, so check the buyer’s total before you list.

How do SNKRS LEO and DAN draws work for Dunk drops?

SNKRS draws are timed raffles, and the two you’ll see most on Dunk drops are LEO and DAN.

According to Sole Retriever’s SNKRS guide, a LEO runs two to three minutes with no countdown, and a DAN shows a timer, typically 10 minutes. Restocks turned a $300 grail into an everyday shoe, and that’s good news if you just want to wear them. You get a true-to-size leather sneaker that goes with everything, and on resale you can often beat the $120 retail. Buy your true size, keep the box in case you sell later, and compare the all-in price for your size across platforms before you check out.
