Sneaker collaborations have been New Balance’s forte for a while now. And before the year ends, it makes sense for the brand to give us one last cool drop! This time, the brand of choice is Auralee, and the silhouette of choice is the XC-72. But before we get into the release details, we’re gonna go through the Auralee New Balance history! We’ll also take a look at some previous releases and upcoming installations. So make sure you’re ready to find new favorites!
So, Auralee is a Japanese brand by designer Ryota Iwai. Iwai’s vision for the brand is very simple: your clothes should be an extension of your personality. And honestly? Preach. Now, when it comes to the creative process, it’s all about the materials. The designer gets his inspiration from the material itself and in which shape it will look the best. This authentic vision took the relatively new brand (2015) to the most famous fashion runways!
Come on, we all gotta admit it, with New Balance’s quality and Auralee’s style, their collabs are must-haves. So, when the first Auralee New Balance pair dropped in 2019, it was a clean take on the RC-2. However, it’s not the most expensive out of all their collabs. In fact, that title goes to our personal favorite: the New Balance 550! These babies retailed for $180, but they’re currently worth $731 on average. We got multiple releases since 2019, and 2022 is no different!
So this is not the first time the brands collaborate on this silhouette. In fact, the first time we laid eyes on the collab was during the FW22 fashion week! And the first two colorways (blue and brown) dropped in October 2022. But now is time for the soft tonals with two new colorways: white and camel! Although winter isn’t the best time to wear white kicks, you can save these until springtime.
The upcoming Auralee New Balance XC-72 colorways will drop on December 9, 2022, and will retail for $150. So if you started your sneaker collection with the first two colorways, the other two should follow! The kicks will drop on Auralee’s website, and possibly at select retailers. However, all signs point to a local Japan drop so far, and you know what that means: exclusivity! And exclusivity always drives resale values up, so keep that in mind before you cop.
